Before discussing the most optimal way to increase the shower water pressure, you must first find out what are the causes that cause this low pressure. This information will help you understand the steps to resolve the issue.

  • One of the main reasons can be related to the plumbing in your home. Sudden low water pressure can be triggered by a clog, a faulty water heater, or a leak in the plumbing system. So you need to make sure it is in good condition. If there is indeed a leak, it is best to call a plumber.
  • It You may also live in an area where the water mains are old and therefore obsolete. This usually happens in cities where it is more difficult to improve the pipe system without causing problems with the supply of the district.
  • Generally, the most common problem is related to the hardness of the water, therefore a significant presence of limestone, and the cleanliness of the shower. Perhaps the knob is particularly dirty and therefore less efficient. If you think this is your case, do not miss the simple trick that we explain.
  • Is the accumulation of limescale the cause?

The hardness of the water can cause limescale buildup. Indeed, with time and wear, lime deposits can form and trigger a reduction in water pressure. Maybe these deposits are clogging the pipes. There’s nothing you can do about it, but you can perform the following trick to at least lighten the flow of water through the shower head a bit. When it is very dirty, just clean it thoroughly to save the day.

It is important to know, that over time, the water from the shower leads to blockages in the shower head, due to the accumulation of limescale and minerals. No wonder it is clogged and the pressure flow is not at the top! Because if it is actually blocked, the water pressure gradually reduces to a trickle, even if it remains efficient in the rest of the house. Objective: to dissolve the formation of tartar and minerals.

See how to proceed step by step:

    • To clean your shower head, start by unscrewing it and cleaning out any debris inside.

If your showerhead has a filter, remove it and clean it as well. Use an old toothbrush or something similar to get the job done. And this, even if many modern shower heads do not require specific equipment, since they are designed to be cleaned simply by rubbing with the fingers.

  • If you notice that it is very dirty, the infallible remedy is to use white vinegar. Thanks to its anti-limestone and anti-tartar properties, it will banish all deposits and residues. Fill a container with water and vinegar (equal parts) and make sure the knob is completely submerged. Let soak overnight. Another tip: pour the mixture into a plastic bag that you wrap around the shower head so that the solution can access the deep holes. Securely tie the bag to the element and let it act overnight. The next day, remove the bag, use the old toothbrush to remove all the dirt embedded in the holes and see the result. Your shower will never have been so clean!

Thanks vinegar, the knob is operational again: you will then notice that the pressure increases again as if nothing had happened. However, if this does not meet all your expectations, repeat the method until the limestone has completely disappeared.

NB: you can also use a liquid anti-limestone which will have exactly the same effect as vinegar. However, we recommend that you always follow the manufacturer’s instructions so as not to damage the material of your shower.
