Put potatoes in the dishwasher: the genius trick that makes life easier
Microwaves, ovens, saucepans are all household appliances that you can use to cook your everyday meals. But did you know that a dishwasher can help you cook certain foods? One thing is certain: you will quickly invite this trick into your daily life!
If the dishwasher is an appliance dedicated to the maintenance of your plates and cutlery, it can also help you to the cooking. Find out what happens if you place potatoes in this equipment. You will be surprised with the result!
The dishwasher is a machine that is used only for cleaning dishes but it can also be used for cooking. It sounds crazy, but it’s true. Most dishwashers provide enough heat to thoroughly cook a wide range of foods. Here is how you can cook potatoes using your dishwasher.
Preparing the potatoes
To cook potatoes in the relatively low heat created by washing and drying cycles of your dishwasher, you should cut the potatoes into very small pieces to expose them to as much heat as possible. After this step, season and pack your potatoes as follows.
Toss the potato slices with your favorite seasonings in a large bowl. You can use dry spices, like ranch seasoning mix, a dash of oil to moisten the tubers, or your favorite creamy dressing or marinade to add flavor.
Dishwasher safe packaging
The key to cooking in your dishwasher is using aluminum foil folded into sealed, airtight storage pouches. Wrap the potatoes in aluminum foil and place everything in a bag. If air comes out when you squeeze the bag, your package is not airtight enough for cooking in the dishwasher.
Place the potato bags in a single layer on the top rack of the dishwasher. The airtight bags will protect your food. Turn off any energy-saving features on your dishwasher before attempting to cook potatoes and let it run through the entire wash and dry cycle. If your water heater is set to low heat for safety or energy saving reasons, you may need to turn it up for this tip because you need as much heat as possible. If your first attempt at cooking baked potatoes in the dishwasher does not work, cut smaller pieces.
