‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ April Update Guide – What’s New?

‘Animal Crossing New Horizons’ April Update Guide - What’s New

This week Nintendo released an April update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons which adds a huge amount of new content including items, events, gameplay mechanics, and special visitors. If you’ve updated your game and are wondering what it brings, take a look right here.

Museum Expansion

One of the biggest additions the update brings is an expansion to the Museum. After numerous rumours, the Museum in Animal Crossing will expand to include an art wing, displaying some of the most famous paintings and statues from real-life. Like with insects, fish, and fossils, artwork can be donated to the Museum through Blathers, as long as they’re not forgeries!

Before you can start donating items, you must first speak to Blathers who will mention that he’s looking to expand the Museum. Only after you’ve donated your first painting will the Museum officially expand.

Special Visitors

As part of the brand new update, two new special visitors have been added to the game; Leif and Redd, both of whom are returning from past games and offer new gameplay to players.

Leif is a sloth who first appeared in Animal Crossing: New Leaf where he owned a Garden Shop on Main Street which eventually merged with the T&T Emporium, the highest upgraded Nookling store. In New Horizons, Leif returns with his Garden Shop but as a travelling merchant. Like others, Lief appears outside Resident Services on any day and sells a variety of garden items including bushes and rare flower seeds. He also buys weeds for 20 bells each at double the normal price.

Jolly Redd

Jolly Redd, previously known as Crazy Redd, is another returning character from past Animal Crossing games. Redd can appear at random on your island but rather than being stationed outside Resident Services, the salesman can be found on a ship on your “secret beach” area at the top of your island.

Redd’s role hasn’t changed from past games as he still sells a selection of artwork such as paintings and statues. However, players can only purchase one piece of artwork at a time per visit and most of the artwork Redd has for sale are forgeries. Players must check whether or not the painting or statue is a forgery as fake artwork cannot be donated to the Museum or sold for bells either. Redd also sells new furniture and there is no limit to how many of these items you can buy from the dodgy salesman.

New Events

In addition to all of the above, the update introduces four brand new events; Nature Day, May Day Tour, International Museum Day, and Wedding Season. Learn more about the upcoming events and when they take place below:

Nature Day

Nature Day begins the day of the update’s release on April 23rd. The event will run through to May 4th and players will be given limited-time Nature Day-themed Nook Miles+ challenges to complete. These focus on planting flowers, bushes, and trees, or watering flowers.

May Day Tour

The May Day Tour event will take place between May 1st and May 7th. As part of the event, players will be given a May Day Ticket which can be used at the Airport to visit new island tours only available during the event. According to Animal Crossing World, the tickets will be given out regularly as a special gift. Players can exchange Nook Miles for May Day Tickets too.

Not much is known about these special tours but it’s thought that they will include various puzzles. The trailer for the update showed one of the tours which appeared to be a maze littered with various resources as well as tools. In the trailer, eagle-eyed fans also spotted special character Rover on one of the May Day Tour islands. Rover is a franchise favourite and was usually the first character players interacted with when setting up their game for the first time. It’s unknown what role he will have for the event.

International Museum Day

The third event added with the update is International Museum Day which takes place between May 18th and May 31st. As part of the event, the Museum will hold a stamp rally and stamps can be collected from various exhibits to fill up a stamp card given to you by Blathers. Players can claim a special reward for completing the stamp card, although we don’t yet know what it is.

Wedding Season

The final event added with the update is Wedding Season which takes place throughout June. As part of the event, special characters Reese and Cyrus, who ran the Re-Tail shop in New Leaf, are returning and are looking to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Players will be tasked to help plan their anniversary by arranging a photoshoot on Harvey’s Island with wedding-themed furniture and clothing. Not much else is known about the event and Reese and Cyrus’ roles in the game.

Other Additions

The update also brought in several other changes to the game. After updating the game, players will receive a letter from Nintendo with a World Map gift. The Bank Of Nook’s savings account interest has been decreased and players receive a Bell Bag rug as compensation.

Isabelle, Tommy, and Timmy’s Aloha Nook Inc. shirts are now available for purchase via the Nook Stop terminal, and players are now also able to play multiple K.K. Slider songs outdoors with different speakers rather than all speakers playing the same track. Reports state that the update also fixes the ‘I’ve Moved Out’ glitch and affected villagers will be removed from player islands the day after updating the game.

That’s it! The April update has brought in a lot of new content which players will be able to enjoy for the next few months when we’ll likely see the release of a summer update which may bring back diving, more special characters, and additional features. Check back for more information.
