Amazon Game Studio and Project Tempo Updates in 2020

Amazon Game Studio and Project Tempo Updates 2020

The appearance of Amazon Games in the market does not mean a little. In fact, the American giant has high expectations about what its role will be in 2020 within the video game industry. These intentions can be seen with what will be its first title, New World. It is an ambitious MMO that will be the company’s cover letter.

The Ambition Amazon Game Studio Has

Game director Scot Lane said they are looking to bring the genre to something “never seen before,” while confirming that their goal is to bring the title graphics to their fullest potential. New World, the brand new Amazon Games game, will be available on PC from May 2020.

During the last Game Awards, Amazon presented the trailer of what will be its emblematic game for 2020, New World. This MMO will try to synthesize the ambition that Jeff Bezos’ company has within the video game industry, which is to advance at a fast and accurate pace.

Beyond the typical characteristics of its genre, such as the inclusion of a large map, the game will allow players to participate in 50 vs 50 battles, where each team must build a fort to defend themselves when necessary and attack when the opportunity is there.

On the side of the combat system, it is known that it will not be based on classes, but on skills and possibilities that will depend on the clothing, armor and weapons that equip the players. It will allow you to build characters of different styles, which will be to the user’s liking.

Beyond its premise, this title seeks to raise the level of MMOs with its Lumberyard graphics engine, an adaptation of the CryEngine, which was modified to be able to integrate with the Twitch streaming service. However, this goal of generating a high-level graphic game means that New World does not reach PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, limiting its possible user market a bit. Keep in mind that Amazon’s strategy is being very different from Stadia, where the idea is not to have an extensive catalog but rather an exclusive and concentrated one.

Amazon Games Studio Requirements

The requirements that this new PC game will have will be the following:

Minimum requirements

  • Operating system: Windows® 8, but Windows® 10 64-bit could work even better
  • CPU: Intel® Core ™ i5-2400 or at least AMD CPU with 4 physical 3 GHz cores
  • Memory: 8 GB of RAM
  • Video card: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 670 2 GB or at least AMD Radeon R9 280 or higher
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 35 GB of available space
  • Network: Any Broadband Internet connection

Recommended requirements

  • Operating system: Windows® 8 / Windows® 10 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel® Core ™ i7-2600K or at least AMD Ryzen 5 1400
  • Memory: 16 GB of RAM
  • Video card: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 970 / AMD Radeon R9 390X or higher
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 35 GB of available space
  • Network: Any Broadband Internet connection

On the other hand, Scot Lane, director of the game, referred to the expectations they have with New World:” One of the great things our team wants to give in the arrival of an MMO is to make it looks different compared to anything people have seen. I think this will be a long-term job since there are a lot of things that we can improve as computers become more powerful. It will allow our team to add more items over time “.

Lane also discussed why the game would not reach consoles: “I love developing for consoles and worked on many games for them, but at New World, we will seek to push the graphics as far as we can.”

New World will hit the market in May 2020, as the first and brand new bet of Amazon Game Studio, the division of the American giant that will seek to take its first steps in the industry.

Amazon Project Tempo

According to analysts, the future of the video game industry is cloud gaming. It will be more services like Netflix, but video games, for which you only need to have a screen where you can play and an excellent Internet connection that allows you to stream. Nowadays, it is possible to enjoy these types of services, with Google Stadia or Nvidia’s GeForce Now, for example.

Now, another great name has joined the list of companies that are betting on cloud games. And, according to The New York Times, Amazon already has its video game platform ready in the cloud and, for now, it is called Project Tempo. While not many details were revealed about this new Amazon platform, it is expected to work like the cloud gaming services that already exist now.

How to Play Games on Project Tempo

Like other similar platforms, to play current games with Project Tempo, you don’t need a powerful console or PC. Video games in Project Tempo will run on the service’s servers (on Amazon PCs) and then be transmitted to the user in real-time. Thanks to this, the user can play demanding games on practically any device with a screen: mobile, tablet, computer, TV, etc.

About the devices compatible with Project Tempo, its games catalog, its frame rate per second, among other technical details, we know nothing. The source has only clarified that Project Tempo was to be released this year. However, in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, its release was postponed to 2021. Even so, in the coming months, Amazon may present a preview and give more details about this platform.

Amazon Is Serious About Video Games

We must remember that recently, the company of Jeff Bezos bought Twitch. It is one of the most popular streaming platforms in the world of video games. Besides, Amazon has been working on the development of casual games for Twitch for a while. It will allow streamers to play with their followers.

The company is also making considerable investments in triple-A games, such as New World and Crucible, which will arrive later this month. In short, Amazon not only wants to have its own video game platform with Project Tempo but also to create original and possibly exclusive games for its platform. That means that they are not only looking to compete with Google, but also with big names in the industry such as Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft.

We will see how well Amazon does with this risky bet.
