Fortnite for Android officially arrives at the Play Store

Fortnite is now available for download on Android devices through the Google Play Store. After years away from the Mountain View company’s digital store, today’s most popular video game officially arrives as one more app and without restrictions.

This way, any user with an Android phone and operating system 7.1 onwards can download Fortnite and log in with their account as usual. For the first time ever, Epic Games allows, the players of the Google operating system to download the APK (the executable file of the legal application) on Play Store. This condition makes it easier for the most android users on the planet now also welcomes this free phenomenon with integrated purchases (free to play).

Fortnite Before Entering Google Play

One of the big problems to play Fortnite was its installation process. To do that, you had to perform several steps such as entering the Epic Games page and then obtaining the APK. Likewise, the installation of unknown sources should be activated in the settings and deactivate developer mode if it was enabled. And after installing a said file in APK format, the full game was downloaded again within the application.

However, all that mechanics have been left behind until today, since recently, Epic Games has finally decided to upload the game to the Google Play Store.

18 months of the pulse between Epic and Google

“After 18 months where Fortnite has operated on Android away from the Google Play Store, we have reached a basic understanding: Google considers downloading software outside of Google Play as a disadvantage,” they said on Polygon which was able to access.

The American company, associated with Tencent Holdings and owner of Unreal Engine technology, justifies the launch of Fortnite on Google Play as a way of not straining the relationship of a Google. They concerned about possible security breaches derived from the download of content and executables outside its own store.

In any case, Fortnite is still available from the Epic Games app. Epic Games’ attempt to keep its most successful video game only available in its own app from Android devices ends like this, after a year and a half, with this new agreement.

You can download Fortnite for Android devices from this link. The download capacity is 45 MB. However, there are additional data packet downloads. Usually, it ends up downloading 1.9 GB in total.
