‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Fishing Tourney – Everything You Need To Know

‘Animal Crossing_ New Horizons’ Fishing Tourney - Everything You Need To Know

One of the biggest gameplay features of Animal Crossing is that the game follows real-time and often holds fun events.

This weekend is event-heavy as Bunny Day takes place on Sunday (April 12th), inspired by the real-world’s Easter. Today (Saturday, April 11th), however, is the game’s first official event; The Spring Fishing Tourney.

The event runs between 9 AM and 6 PM today and, as part of it, special character C.J. can be found outside Resident Services. C.J. hosts the event and will task you with catching as many fish as you can within three minutes.

Every fish caught scores points and the more fish you catch, the more points you score. After catching three fish, you will earn two additional points, earning a maximum of 12 points for catching 10 fish.

After collecting enough points, you can exchange them for special fish-themed prizes. They include statues, a Fish Wand, clothing, rugs, umbrellas, wallpaper, a Fresh Cooler, a Fishing Rod Stand, and lots more.

There are also trophies you can earn from the event; Bronze, Silver, and Gold. These trophies, as reported by iMore, are earned based on the cumulative points you make throughout the day. For the Bronze Fishing Trophy, you’ll need 100 points; for the Silver Fishing Trophy, you’ll need 200 points; and for the Gold Fishing Trophy, you’ll need 300 points.

Fishing Tourney: Bait And Rods

To participate in the event, you’ll only need your fishing rod. However, as AnimalCrossingWorld reports, since the Bunny Day event is still currently underway it’s possible that you may end up fishing Water Eggs rather than actual fish, which clearly won’t count for the event.

To prevent this, we suggest you create fish bait with Manila Clams as they only spawn fish and will make finding them easier during the three-minute challenge since you won’t have to wander around your island looking for their shadows.

Meanwhile, we suggest you also craft multiple fishing rods before participating in the three-minute challenge. Tools break fairly quickly in the game and if this happens during a challenge, you’ll be able to quickly swap to a back-up rod to continue fishing, rather than having to craft a new tool and lose precious time.

Although there’s no limit to the number of times you can enter the tourney, you’ll need to pay a 500 bell fee to participate. C.J. won’t charge you an entry fee the first time you start the tourney, but you’ll be required to pay it after this.

Finally, the fish you catch throughout the day can also be sold to C.J. for a slightly higher price than when sold to Nook’s Cranny. Even if you do not want to participate in the event, it may be a good idea to sell fish to C.J. for some extra bells.

If you’re participating in the Fishing Tourney today, we suggest you relax when fishing, take things slowly and simply enjoy the event. And don’t forget, Zipper T. Bunny will be visiting tomorrow for Bunny Day too!
