Remedy Entertainment Drops First Trailer For Control DLC ‘The Foundation’

Developers 505 Games and Remedy Entertainment have dropped the first trailer for Control’s DLC The Foundation.

Control’s first DLC, which was announced last year following the game’s release in August, is set to release at the end of March for PlayStation 4 and PC, but it will be dropping at the end of June for Xbox users.

The new trailer offers players a look at the new DLC which whisks players to the depths of the Oldest House where new horrors, challenges and secrets await. In the trailer, we see Helen Marshall, the Head of Operations for the Federal Bureau of Control, who disappeared earlier in the game and has been presumed missing.

Throughout the trailer, we see new enemy types, new locations, and what appears to be new powers interspersed amid shots of Jesse levitating, shooting, and using her telekinetic powers on The Hiss. The video ends with a sneak peek at a giant Cthulu-like creature.

A description of the expansion reads: “The Foundation expansion will delve into the Oldest House’s history. Jesse is alerted by the Board that a situation has arisen in the Foundation, the bedrock of the Oldest House.

“A mysterious structure called the Monolith has been damaged, resulting in the Astral Plane leaking into the Foundation. If Jesse does not find a way to stop it, the entire Oldest House, along with the Bureau, will be consumed by this invading dimension.”

The Foundation is available for purchase via the game’s Season Pass at $24.99/£19.99. The Season Pass includes both The Foundation and Control’s second expansion pack; AWE (Altered World Events).

Take Control

Alongside the main expansion, playerswill also get a free update for all versions of Control. According to GameSpot, the update includes the new Shield Rush ability upgrade, an option to reassign all Ability Points as well as quality-of-life changes such as a visual upgrade to the map.

Tomas Puha, the Communications Director at Remedy, shared some more details about the game on the PlayStation blog. He reveals that The Foundation will include a main storyline with several main missions as well as various side missions, giving players an estimated four to five hours of extra playtime.

The expansion includes a new ability called Shape as well as a brand new Service Weapon called Fracture which allows “Jesse to transform and shatter the Foundation’s environments.”

What’s more, the expansion pack includes a new enemy; the Hiss Sharpened. These enemies can be found within the caves under the Oldest House and, according to Puha, are rather challenging “as they approach you with their melee swings, pickaxe in hand.”

Control has earned considerable praise since its release last August. It’s won numerous awards including the 2019 Critics’ Choice Award at the Golden Joystick Awards, Best Art Direction at The Game Awards 2019, and it has been nominated for 11 awards at the upcoming British Academy Games Awards.

You can pick up Control now and its first expansion later this month.
