Why Is The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra So Expensive?

Why Is The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra So Expensive

Samsung recently introduced its new flagships for this first half-year, the Galaxy S family. Unlike previous years, this time, the family has three members, the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 Plus, and Galaxy S20 Ultra.

Unfortunately, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has a price that has raised some controversy, since it is quite high concerning previous smartphones that the company has launched. But this has an explanation. Today, we are going to tell you why the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is so expensive.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, why is it so expensive?

Android has a great virtue for a wide variety of smartphones. The use of the operating system allows us to have many possibilities when buying a smartphone. But obviously, there are also top devices that require a higher outlay for their features.

This is precisely what happens to the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra since the Korean company’s smartphone is more expensive than its closest predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S10 +. However, it has a very simple reason: it costs more to produce it than what its predecessor cost.

Last year, we already know that the Samsung Galaxy S10 +, which was released at 1,200 dollars, had production costs of $ 420 per unit, which is less than 50% of the price. However, that does not include other associated costs such as marketing or distribution thereof. We are talking only about the price of the components and their assembly, with its 6.4-inch AMOLED screen being the most expensive component of all.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, which costs 1,600 dollars for its part, has manufacturing costs of 528 dollars (according to the study carried out by Tech insights.) It is 108 dollars more than its predecessor.

It is quite a significant figure that makes sense. Because they will also have to pay the other costs involved in launching a smartphone of these characteristics, and that is still beneficial for the company.

Galaxy S20 Ultra Costs Manufacturing

Last year, the most expensive component was the smartphone screen, at the cost of $ 86. However, in this S20 Ultra, the most costly part is its camera modules – including the 108 megapixels.

They are priced at $ 107. It is doubling what the cameras cost last year. Furthermore, we must add other costs in the smartphone that have risen slightly, such as memory. In fact, this device has 12 GB of RAM in its base configuration and 16 GB in the most advanced version.

Is the Price Worth It?

Although there are many top-performing specs in this smartphone, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra also has some hidden flaws that you only know after testing it.

To start, we talk about a smartphone of 222 grams of weight and with nothing comfortable proportions. Compared to the “Plus” version, this “Ultra” does require more grip.

As with the Note 10 Plus, Samsung withdrew the exclusive Bixby button and virtualized its presence to touches set on the lock. Beyond that, the aluminum edge is more curved than the 2019 Note, but the curve of the screen is much shorter and less pronounced.
