Nintendo Announces New ‘Animal Crossing’ Direct And ‘Cooking Mama’ Game

Nintendo has made two big announces this week.

The games publisher and console maker revealed this week that a new Nintendo Direct, short videos which detail upcoming games, will air tomorrow focusing on the new Animal Crossing: New Horizons game.

Nintendo officially announced the Direct in a tweet yesterday, writing: “Tune in on February 20 at 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. ET for a roughly 25-minute live-streamed #AnimalCrossing: New Horizons Direct, featuring an in-depth look at Nook Inc.’s Deserted Island Getaway Package!”

It’s rumoured that the upcoming Direct will take a look at how shops are incorporated into the game and how New Horizons’ islands change from vast spaces into bustling towns. It may also touch on new features that have yet to be revealed.

A Direct on the new Animal Crossing game had been heavily speculated before its official announcement seeing as the game is set to release on March 20th. An Animal Crossing-themed Nintendo Switch will also launch alongside the game but the limited edition console may be hit with delays due to the coronavirus.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the latest instalment in the Animal Crossing franchise and sees players move to an island via Tom Nook’s Deserted Island Getaway Package. On the new island, players will be tasked with starting a new life and building up a town.

Fans are excited for the upcoming Animal Crossing Direct but are still hoping that Nintendo will air a general Direct later this month to showcase and announce new games.

A New ‘Cooking Mama’ Game

Also this week, Nintendo revealed that Cooking Mama will be making her return to Nintendo next month with the release of the newly announced Cooking Mama: Cookstar.

Nintendo dropped a trailer for the new Cooking Mama game this week, showcasing some of the gameplay mechanics fans are familiar with. The trailer showed players chopping, mixing, and stirring food. It also showed that players can still upset Mama by messing up their food.

The trailer also unveiled new recipes as well as a vegetarian mode. An Instagram-inspired feature was also featured in the trailer, revealing that players can take pictures of their dishes once they’ve been prepared.

Although an official date hasn’t yet been revealed, the game will reportedly drop some time in March 2020 at $39.99 or the regional equivalent.

Cooking Mama first launched on the Nintendo DS console in 2006. There have been several sequels to the game including Cooking Mama: Cook Off and Cooking Mama: World Kitchen on the Wii, Cooking Mama 2: Dinner With Friends, Gardening Mama and Cooking Mama 3: Shop & Chop on the DS, Cooking Mama 4: Forest Friends and Cooking Mama 5: Bon Appétit on the 3DS.

Cookstar is set to be the first HD Cooking Mama game and, according to reports, may also release on the PlayStation 4 for the very first time.
