A release date for the long-awaited Wastelanders update to Bethesda’s Fallout 76 has finally been revealed.
Game publisher Bethesda Softworks announced this week that the Wastelanders update will launch on April 7th. Alongside the announcement, Bethesda also dropped a trailer for the update, showcasing footage of new features.
The update, which will be free for all Fallout 76 players, will feature the addition of fully-voiced NPCs, a feature which has been missing from the online multiplayer game since it launched back in 2018.
Alongside the addition of NPCs, the update will reportedly include a brand new main questline and reputation system. New enemies and locations will be added to the game along with two new factions; Raiders and Settlers, whom players can interact with through branching dialogue options which affect your relationship with each faction.
According to Bethesda’s announcement, the game’s original questline has also been updated, although the game publisher didn’t explain what has changed.
Although the update is completely free for players, anyone who is looking for even more content can purchase two faction-themed content bundles which include various cosmetic items and gear.
Some of the content from the Raider bundle includes a Mine Car Planter, Raider C.A.M.P., a Raider faction flag, a Raider Conquest loot bag, a Raider Marauder power armour skin, a Raider Pathfinder outfit, and more.
The Settler bundle, meanwhile, includes a Settler C.A.M.P., a Settler stash box, a Settler Traveler loot bag, a Settler Vigilante power armour skin, a Settler faction flag, a Settler Mechanic outfit, and so much more.
What’s more, players who currently do not own the game but want to experience the update can simply purchase the base game. However, a newly released deluxe edition will give you the Wastelanders update along with the Raider and Settler content bundles.
Fallout 76 On Steam
On the same day the Wastelanders update launches, Bethesda will be launching the game on Steam long after promising a release on the platform. Alongside the game, players will also be able to purchase in-game currency Atoms, the upcoming Wastelanders bundles, and sign up for the controversial Fallout 1st subscription.
An official statement from Bethesda reads: “When Wastelanders launches on April 7, Fallout 76 will also make its way onto Steam. Fallout 76: Wastelands version and the Fallout 76: Wastelanders Deluxe Edition will be available for purchase in the Steam Store.
“You’ll also be able to pick up Atoms, a Fallout 1st membership, the Tricentennial Pack, and the Raider and Settler Content Bundle through Steam.”
Unfortunately, players who already own the game will not be able to transfer Atoms or the Fallout 1st membership between the Bethesda.net or Steam platforms.
Bethesda states: “If you already have Fallout 76 on Bethesda.net, you will not be able to transfer your Atoms or Fallout 1st membership balance between Bethesda.net and Steam. Additionally, Atoms you earn are specific to one or the other platform. However, items you have purchased through the Atomic Shop will be shared across both platforms”.
