Hideo Kojima Wants To Make Next Game Weirder Than ‘Death Stranding’

Hideo Kojima has opened up about his next project and it gets weird.

The video game creator dropped his latest game Death Stranding last year and since its release, fans have been wondering what the developer will be creating next. Turns out, it’s going to be something weirder than Death Stranding.

In an interview for Famitsu magazine with artist Yoji Shinkawa, Kojima opened up about his next project. According to DualShockers, the magazine’s interviewer asked the pair about what they would like to do next and Kojima revealed that Kojima Productions is planning to work on more than one game at a time, with one of them being his next “big” game.

Kojima also stated that his development firm would like to try creating smaller games that are episodic or digital-only. However, DualShockers reports that Kojima expressed concern that he wouldn’t be able to manage all of that but hopes to launch small games while working on a bigger project.

After this, the pair discussed the weapons in Death Stranding which they both worked on and touched on the lack of mecha. This led Kojima to state he’d like to make a game or anime with mecha in order to give Shinkawa some design work.

Kojima and Shinkawa then stated that, although Death Stranding is considered to be a “weird” game, the pair themselves don’t believe so and hope to make “weirder” games in the future. Also in the interview, Kojima reiterated his desire to make films before ending the interview by discussing how video games will change and eventually merge in the future.

Hideo Kojima’s Next Project

During the interview, Hideo Kojima also mentioned actor Oscar Isaac. Last December, Kojima shared images of himself with Isaac and director J.J. Abrams, sparking rumours that Kojima was working with pair for his upcoming project.

The developer, who broke a Guinness World Record for social media following last year, stated on his English Twitter account in November that he was hoping to make “the scariest” horror video game.

This week, meanwhile, new rumours suggest that Sony is working on a brand new horror video game. Industry insider Emre Kaya tweeted this week: “I know I don’t normally post about gaming stuff (except Batman related things) but I have learned that Sony is currently working on a new horror IP. Interesting… #PS5 #Playstation”.

A report from this week claimed that Konami is currently working on two new Silent Hill games. Leaker AestheticGamer claimed the news on Twitter and stated that one of the two games will act as a reboot while the other will act as a companion similar in style to Until Dawn.

The leaks have led to speculation that Hideo Kojima could be working on the new horror video game for the next-generation PS5. Other fans, however, have suggested that Kojima could be working on a Silent Hill game but after his P.T. project was cancelled, that seems unlikely.

Whatever the projects are, it seems we’ll have to do a little bit of waiting before finding out.
