Cyberpunk 2077 Delayed Until September

Cyberpunk 2077 Delayed Until September

Cyberpunk has been delayed by five months to September 2020.

CD Projekt Red’s eagerly anticipated sci-fi RPG video game was scheduled to release in April, but the game’s developers released a statement on Twitter yesterday (January 16) announcing that they had decided to delay the game several months to September.

On Twitter, CD Projekt Red shared an image of the developer’s statement alongside the tweet: “We have important news regarding Cyberpunk 2077’s release date we’d like to share with you today.”

The statement reads: “Cyberpunk 2077 will not make the April release window and we’re moving the launch date to September 17, 2020.

We are currently at a stage where the game is complete and playable, but there’s still work to be done. Night City is massive – full of stories, content, and places to visit, but due to the sheer complexity of it all, we need more time to finish playtesting, fixing, and polishing.

We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for this generation and postponing launch will give us the precious months we need to make the game perfect. Expect more regular updates on progress as we get closer to the new release date. We’re really looking forward to seeing you in Night City, thank you for your ongoing support!”

Although many fans expressed disappointment at the news, most supported CD Projekt Red’s decision in delaying the game to create a better game.

Cyberpunk 2077’s Online Multiplayer

The video game, which is being developed by the creators behind the critically acclaimed Witcher 3: Wild Hunt game, takes place in the dystopian Night City, an open-world city with several districts.

Players take on the role of a custom-made mercenary who takes a risky job to go after a prototype implant that “is the key to immortality”. Along the way, the player will be aided by various companions and will also run into a character played by Keanu Reeves.

Following the news of the game’s delay, it was revealed that CD Projekt Red had also delayed the game’s online multiplayer mode which, according to the developer, may not launch for several years.

CD Projekt Red announced the news in an investors call in which they stated that the mode, which will reportedly come in a free update, will not come into 2022. The developer didn’t give out any more information but did confirm that the multiplayer mode is being developed simultaneously as the single-player campaign and will be treated as its own separate experience.

CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t the only game that has been delayed this year. Last December, Naughty Dog announced that its eagerly anticipated The Last Of Us Part II has been delayed from February to May.

Meanwhile, Crystal Dynamics announced this week that its Marvel’s Avengers game was also delayed, from May to September 2020. All developers have stated that the delay will ensure they create a better and more polished game.
