Razer Blade Pro 17 Review

Razer laptops have a unique distinction for being clean and sleek. All of their line are simply built without all the fancy features. It comes down to personal preference what type you like. Some people prefer fancy looking gaming laptops. Some prefer sleek and clean built gaming laptops. The model we are reviewing today is the latest from the Razer Blade lineup. This is also built on the simplicity principle. People may argue that the design language is too simple. This is for those who prefer simplicity. The model we are reviewing is the Razor Blade Pro 17.

Razer Blade Pro 17

The Razer Blade Pro 17 offers top tier performance that competes with desktop gaming rigs. It packs so much power to even surpass some gaming desktops. All of this power is crammed into a relatively thin gaming laptop. The hardware it uses is also top of the line. More details below. This is the largest laptop they have designed with a whopping 17 inch screen that’s incorporated in the name too. For the people that have been using the 15 inch model with 10 series graphic cards, this is a major improvement. It doesn’t come at a cheap price but it does come loaded with top tier hardware.

Design & Aesthetics

Razer have iterated over their previous generation models and stayed with the simple design. It’s got the same glowing snake logo on the lid which only glows green. Overall it’s just an enlarged version of its previous brothers. A minor detail is that the edges chip away easily. It’s better to keep a case on it or a skin. The laptop obviously is large and won’t fit into many normal sized laptops. It’s difficult to find a special bag for its size other than that there are no complaints. Overall it’s a solid built device with high quality material. Considering the high price tag, you’re sure to get high quality materials.

Screen

The Razer Blade Pro 17 from its name is evident that it features a massive 17.3” screen that has super sharp and contrast colors. The screen has super slim bezels all the way around which add up to its sleek look. It got great color accuracy with super sharp colors. In terms of comparison with its previous model, only the refresh rate has gone up. The colors are very similar to previous model. The refresh rate goes all the way up to 240Hz. The peak brightness goes up to 400 nits maximum. That’s quite bright for a gaming laptop. It’s sure to give you maximum gaming experience a laptop screen can offer. Games look super crisp on this panel. You can expect OLED panels in future panels but for now you’re stuck with the traditional panels.

Performance

There’s no doubt the performance offered by the Razer Blade Pro 17 is equal to desktop grade. It’s running the latest hardware from the CPU to the GPU. Firstly let’s talk about the CPU. You can configure this with up to 9th generation corei7 9750H that features 6 cores. Its base clock is 2.6 GHz and can boost up to 4.6 GHz which is enough to run latest AAA titles and for other video editing activities. All games run smoothly without stutter of any kind. The CPU is a perfect mixture for professional gamers as well as content creators. It can also be used as a workstation because it offers 6 cores that all boost up to 4.5 GHz. This greatly translates to real world performance.

The GPU its running is of the 20 series line. It can be configured with up to a RTX 2080 Max-Q. The Max-Q version doesn’t offer quite the desktop grade performance but it’s enough to push out frame rates that appeal to the eyes. Less demanding games like PUBG and Apex Legends can reach 120+ frames per second on 1080p at Ultra settings. These frames ae enough to satisfy the gamer. If you are a competitive player, you can lower the resolution or graphics quality a bit to reach even higher frames for a competitive advantage.

Connectivity

The laptop considering its massive size is loaded with day to day needed I/O. The port selection is perfect for day to day use. It even houses a full SD card reader from which photographers can benefit buy directly uploading files to their laptop using the SD card slot. Upgradability

The Razer Blade Pro 17 houses an extra M.2 slot and a SODIMM that supports up to 64 GB of extra memory so you can upgrade the Blade according to your requirements. Opening the chassis is easy too and the slots are right on the bottom.
