Acer Predator Triton 900 Review

Ever wondered is you could have a 180 degree rotating screen on your laptop? Seems wild right? Well Microsoft have done it with their Microsoft Surface Studio. That’s basically for content creators. What if a laptop screen had this feature? Seems like a gimmick right? Wait till we tell you about the laptop we’re reviewing. The wildly 180 degree rotating screen is just the starting feature of this heavy duty gamin g laptop. The main drawback is that the scree doesn’t support a stylus like Microsoft Studio does. Well the laptop is targeted towards hardcore gamers so what are they going to do with a stylus anyway.

Design and Aesthetics

When it comes to design language off the Predator Triton 900, it stands way out of the crowd. Anyone passing by this device is sure to turn their heads when they see a rotating screen on a gaming laptop. How do gamers actually benefit from this rotating screen though? Well the short answer is that it’s just a gimmick designed for innovation. It’s something that Acer can showcase as an iteration over their previous model. I surely don’t know a useful advantage of this rotating screen. Well enough on the screen let’s talk about overall build quality. The two hinges the screen reside and rotate around seem pretty sturdy and well built. Rotating the screen freely around isn’t going to cause damage anytime soon.

The overall deck is well built and has little to no flex when pressed down on the keyboard indicating its good built quality. Well at this price point, high quality materials are sure to be expected. It’s nowhere light or compact. Travelling with it can be quite difficult and hard. The laptop itself weighs about 4.5 kg. The charging brick along with it adds more to the weight. The Triton 900 is to be used like a desktop due to its difficulty to carry around. It’s also a bit hard to find a bag for this huge beast and we’re not yet considering the charging brick. The charging brick adds another 2 pounds to the total weight.

CPU

The triton can house up to an eight generation Corei7 processor. It is a bit old for 2020 but it surely does the job. The Hexa-Core CPU with its 6 cores handles most demanding tasks. In terms of gaming performance, it can handle pretty much all AAA titles. The frame rates it pushes are high enough for the 4K screen. Most AAA titles can be played on Ultra settings at 1440p settings. Pushing the resolution to 4k drops a bit frames but that’s what you’ll want provided it comes with a 4k 60fps panel.

GPU

Predator Triton 900 can house up to a fully loaded RTX 2080 with up to 8GB GDDR6 memory. With RTX you can be sure to enjoy the most powerful gaming experience a gaming card can offer. The frame rates it pushes out are simply out of this world. AI enhanced gaming experience add another level to the fun. RTX also comes with ray tracing that has never been used before in previous technologies. Ray tracing changes the entire game. With ray tracing turned on, you’ll be sure to enjoy your compatible games to the fullest. The advanced shading technologies paired with artificial intelligence are more powerful than ever.

Speakers

The Triton 900 houses decent sounding speakers that are enough to make a glass table vibrate. Yes I have tried and the speakers are powerful enough to make a glass table vibrate. They sound decent enough, but considering the price point, a bit better sounding speakers would have been preferable. They use Waves MAXXAUDIO technology that have top of the line audio processing features to enhance every aspect of the laptops sound. MAXBASS technology greatly increases the output bass coming from the speakers. Finally the WAVES NX 3D sound technology translates any headphone into high quality sounding 360 degree sound system. In the audio department the laptops got you covered in all factors.

Keyboard

What’s a gaming keyboard without RGB right? Well the Triton 900 has you covered in that area. With each key that can be lit up to any color independently, you can customize to your desire. The keys are low profile mechanical switches that give a decent amount of tactile feedback when typing. The travel distance is shallow but it gets the job done. The keyboard is placed near the bottom that sort of hinders the typing experience. We are used to a keyboard that is placed midway on the deck. This also take some time getting used to. The keyboard also houses macro keys that can be used to program any function.

Trackpad

The trackpad is located on an unusual position. Its place on the right side of the keyboard. The trackpad requires some time getting used to but once you’re familiar with the layout, it gets easy using it. It’s got windows precision drivers that ensure accurate maneuvering. The trackpad can be used as a number pad by tapping the corner twice. The number keys are virtual and don’t provide feedback like traditional keys do.

Predator SenseTM

The software Predator uses is called the Predator SenseTM which has all the basic utilities needed to tune your rig. It houses the overclock menu, fan control, lighting, hot keys and monitoring menu. All of these are placed in on software which gives you all the control you need at your fingertips.

KillerTM Networking

No one likes latency and no one likes losing due to latency issues. The Predator houses its killer E3000 Ethernet wireless controller and Killer control center 2.0 that has all the tools required to keep your network optimized and keep your ping at the lowest possible so you can focus on winning.

Verdict

The Predator Triton 900 is not for people on a budget firstly. The features and hardware it packs are only for extreme gamers. People that are gaming enthusiasts and play games competitively. The laptop gives you all the edge you need for competitive gameplays, or competitions.
