Samsung Ready To Showcase Its 8K TV AT CES 2020

Samsung might be planning to raise the bar of television technology with a revelation at CES in Las Vegas next week. The TV is supposed to be a completely bezel-less and have an 8K QLED model. The manufacturer today announced that it has partnered with the 8K Association (8KA) to establish a first-of-its-kind certification program designed to distinguish 8K enabled televisions and other devices.

“We are proud to be one of the founding members of the 8K Association and to have our new lineup of QLED 8K TVs certified by the program,” said Hyogun Lee, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Our goal is to provide consumers with the ability to easily identify premium 8K displays from other devices when making purchasing decisions. Home entertainment and TVs are important investments for many of our consumers, and we hope that the 8KA Certification Logo will help guide them.”

Dubbed by some reports as the Samsung “Zero Bezel” TV and bearing model numbers of Q900 and Q950T, the TV is rumored to have such tiny bezels such that the screen edge effectively disappears when viewed from a distance. A German website 4KFilme released a pair of leaked renders of the TV showing the screen in all its bezel-less glory.

Samsung is yet to officially announce this product and there is no word on the pricing, release date or even what size options will be offered. But that said, this falls in line with the previous display innovations it pioneered on its Galaxy smartphone line.

The 8KA Certification program aims to distinguish televisions having four times as many pixels as the standard 4K televisions for clarity. The requirements are resolution reaching 7680 x 4320, peak brightness greater than 600 nits, image transmission of HDMI 2.1 and high efficiency video codec (HVEC).
