Corsair One i160 Compact Gaming Desktop Review

Corsair One i160 Compact Gaming Desktop Review

We have all seen heavy and bulky desktop gaming rigs. Those enormous machines take up a lot of space and sometimes don’t sit in with the rest of your setting on the table. Some people like minimalist and compact design so these big gaming rigs just don’t appeal to them.

What they want is a compact gaming rig that has a minimalist design which matches their setup. You might be thinking that a compact design may result in compromise in hardware. Or compromise in cooling factors that give rise to high temperatures. Well that might be the case for some but this is an exception. This case has the most minimalist and sleek design with a compact form factor.

Corsair One i160

Today we’re reviewing the Corsair One i160, the latest from the Corsair One lineup. Corsair One redefines the top notch performance you can expect from a gaming PC. It is insanely fast, wildly compact and stunningly designed to perfection. The aluminum body shines and gives off a very modern vibe. It’s packed with all the latest hardware from CPU to GPU.

With such powerful hardware you might be thinking that heat might be an issue with such a compact body. Well you’re wrong there. It uses water cooling on both the CPU and GPU to provide adequate cooling throughout. The exhaust is well designed and offers smooth airflow. More details as we move on.

Design & Aesthetics

The first thing you notice when you look at this rig is the insanely compact design. It is packed and loaded with rich hardware in a body of about 12 liters. With such a small and compact body it is guaranteed to catch eyes of people. The sides are built from aluminum with a dark grey anodized finish. The front has some branding from Corsair as well as the power button on the top. The gap between the front and side panels is filled with subtle yet bright RGB lighting.

What’s a gaming rig without RGB right?  This RGB lighting effects can be customized through Corsairs software. The side panels have triangle cutouts in them for fresh air to flow through the radiators mounted on the sides. The backside contains all the basic I/O needed for day to day usage.

Processing Power

The i160 packs in a corei9 9900K from Intel. This 6 core CPU has all the power needed to power through the latest AAA titles with ease. It provides lightning fast performance with room for overclocking. The liquid cooling makes it possible to be further overclocked. The cooling solution is so powerful that it allows the CPU to run at BOOST or TURBO for longer durations. The 9900K is powerful enough to power through most of the CPU demanding tasks easily. The liquid cooling helps it maintain TURBO boost for longer durations.

Graphics Processor

The Corsair One i160 is able to house full desktop grade 20 series RTX Graphics processing units. It can be configured with the latest RTX 2080 Ti. With the power of liquid cooling, you can expect the highest possible performance from these cards. The new architecture delivers up to 6x the performance previous generation cards provided. It pushes out frame rates beyond expectations. It’s powerful enough to render 4k and VR without breaking a sweat. It won’t be an understatement to say this is a must have for gamers.

It pushes up to 134 frames per second on far Cry 5 on 1440p on Ultra settings. For Honor can be played at 155 frames per second on 1440p on Ultra too. Finally Shadow of Tomb Raider at 1440p at Ultra can be played easily at 98 frames per second. With these marks you can have a clearer picture of the capability of this machine.

The i160 comes with 32 GB of Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 memory which is just blazing fast and unmatched. It is designed to give you uninterrupted responsiveness so you can focus on the task that matters. Games will load up very fast on this 2666 MHz memory.

It also comes with lightning fast 480 GB M.2 NVMe SSD and a high capacity 2 TB HDD which is the perfect combination for fast memory and high capacity.

There’s no doubt that the cooling solution employed by Corsair One is one of its kind. In such a slim and compact package, it’s very difficult to cool such high tech hardware. The sleek design is hyper efficient when it comes to cooling.

The sides pull in cold air into the radiator and the liquid cooling solution takes away all the excess heat from the CPU and GPU and dissipates it out. It uses ML series fans which are basically frictionless and produce little to no noise when operating at full load. This is the optimal cooling solution as CPU is able to stay below the 80 degree mark while the fans produce absolutely no noise.

I/O Panels

The Corsair One i160 is rich in I/O ports. It’s got all the basic connections needed for an average gamer. On the back it’s got 6 USB ports (1x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C, 1x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type A, 2x USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A, 2x USB 2.0, 3x Display ports, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, Gigabit Ethernet, Audio Connectors (5+S/PDIF).

The front houses an easy to reach 3.5mm headphone jack, two USB 3.0 ports and a VR-Ready HDMI port.

Power Supply

It packs 80 Plus Gold certified, 600 Watt power supply that powers all the components. This PSU is small enough to fit into the small form factor of the Corsair One while giving enough juice to all the components simultaneously. The zero RPM mode keeps the noise level in check. It also runs very quietly.

Well to put this beast rig into conclusion is difficult. With so many high end hardware components packed into a compact body that sits perfectly on your table. It is enough to say that this is one of its kinds with such minimal design language.
