The Outer Worlds is officially getting DLC.
Obsidian Entertainment, the developer of The Outer Worlds, revealed the news in a forum post this week, revealing that they will be releasing a DLC expansion sometime next year.
In the post on the developer’s official forums, Obsidian’s Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky thanked fans for voting for them at The Game Awards 2019 last week although the recently-released game failed to win anything.
The post read: “Greeting employees of Halcyon, we want to take this opportunity to thank the incredible team behind The Outer Wilds. It is because of their hard work and dedication to this project that we received the Best Narrative, Best Performance – Ashly Burch, Best RPG, and Game of the Year nominations at The Game Awards.
“To all of those who voted for us in The Game Awards, you are all fantastic and we are so grateful for your support. The reception to The Outer Worlds has been unbelievable to see, and even just being nominated means a lot.”
The developers then revealed plans of upcoming DLC, saying: “However, the journey isn’t over yet as we are excited to announce that we will b expanding the story through DLC next year! Details will be made available at a later date.”
Cain and Boyarsky finished the post by sharing their own messages, saying: “We just wanted to personally thank our team for doing a wonderful job and our fans for their tremendous support.”
Boyarsky then added his message: “And Tim would like to say what an honour it was to work with me.” And Cain responded: “Whatever, Leonard. Now that we’ve finished, I expect that certain photographs will be destroyed, as per our agreement.”
Unfortunately, the developers didn’t disclose when in 2020 the DLC will be released or what the expansion will include. It seems we may have to wait several months before receiving any new information.
The Game Awards: Who Were The Winners
While The Outer Worlds was nominated for several awards at The Game Awards 2019, the game failed to take anything home. Instead, the event saw FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice take home the Game of the Year and Best Action/Adventure Game awards.
Other games which won big at the event included Death Stranding which took home Best Score/Music, Best Game Direction and Best Performance for Mads Mikkelsen. Other awards included Best Ongoing Game (Fortnite), Best Art Direction (Control), Best Family Game (Luigi’s Mansion 3) and more.
The event also included several new game announcements including Fast & Furious Crossroads, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, The Wolf Among Us, Godfall, Surgeon Simulator 2, Ruined King, and more.
The Game Awards 2019 also included updates on previous games such as Magic: The Gathering Area, Humankind, Control, Cyberpunk 2077, and a longer trailer for Sucker Punch’s upcoming PlayStation exclusive Ghost Of Tsushima.
Lastly, Microsoft sparked a storm on the internet when the firm unveiled its next-generation console named Xbox Series X which is set to release Holiday 2020.
