Apple May Feature Samsung OLED Panels Exclusively For the iPhone Pro Models In 2020

Soon after the reports suggested that the 2020 iPhone 12 Pro models will come with 6GB RAM, quad cameras and 5G supports, a new info by South Korean news outlet ET News has surprised iPhone fans around the globe. The latest report suggests Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro models to exclusively feature Samsung OLED panels.

Actually iPhone 12 line up will include models with 5.4-inch, 6.1-inch, and 6.7-inch OLED panels. According to the ET News, Samsung will be the exclusive OLED supplier for the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max. However, for the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 model, OLED screen supplies are said to be shared with LG and carry an extra touch layer, potentially indicating that they are for a cheaper, less refined model.

iPhone 12 with Y-OCTA OLED?

Last year, there were rumours that the 2019 generation iPhones will make the jump, but that didn’t happened. But now sources suggest that Samsung has finally found an agreement with Apple for the use of its Y-OCTA OLED panels. Actually, the Y-OCTA technology uses on-cell touch sensing, so it doesn’t require a separate touch-sensitive layer. This makes the display panel thinner and cheaper to manufacture. In this case Samsung seems to be the only company that can mass produce such panels at the scale Apple needs them. This might be the reason the deal didn’t happen sooner. We would also like to bring it to your notice that Samsung is already a primary supplier for the displays on iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max but the LCD panels used on iPhone 11 are being supplied by LG and Sharp.

So, with all the information and updates, one thing is clear that Apple is having a busy year ahead for sure. Along with iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, Apple is expected to launch iPhone SE 2 using a 4.7” LCD and the iPhone 12 non-Pro with a 6.1” OLED next year. There’s lot coming up in near days, so stay tuned with us to get all the latest news, leaks and updates.
