Just before the dawn of 2020, chipset manufacturer Qualcomm is marking the end of the year by announcing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865. The chipset will be the successor to the Snapdragon 855/855+ and will be powering Android flagships next year.

Qualcomm will be unveiling the chipset at Qualcomm’s annual summit to be held from December 3 to December 5. The company will also be announcing a bunch of other next-gen products that might range from an update to the Wear platform to mid-range 5G chipsets. Like its predecessor, the SD 865 is expected to come in two variants, one with an integrated 5G modem.

The Snapdragon 865 will be the most highlighted launch of the event. The chipset will eventually find its home in flagship devices from OEM’s like Samsung, Xiaomi, OPPO, OnePlus and more. In fact, a Chinese OEM going by the name 8848 has announced its upcoming flagship phone, the Titanium M6 5G, which will be powered by the Snapdragon 865.

Earlier at the IFA event this year, Qualcomm revealed its plans to bring 5G support to the Snapdragon 6, 7 and 8 series. Hence, we can expect mid-range 5G integrated handsets that will be powering the mid-range smartphones next year. Manufacturers like Realme, HMD Global, OPPO, Vivo and others have plans to release devices powered by the 7-series 5G SoC.

Apart from the chipsets, Qualcomm might unveil the successor to the Wear 3100 processor for Android wearables. Better hardware will definitely give a boost to Wear OS-based wearables. Aside from that, we might witness the launch of a successor to the ARM-based Snapdragon 8CX processor that powers ultra-portable laptops. It might even get an integrated 5G modem as the 5th generation wireless standard is expected to go mainstream in 2020.
